A dialogue series on the topic ‘Roles & Responsibilities of youth in the Democratic process’ was held on 6th December 2018 at Hotel Sunlight, Dhangadhi. Around 27 participants from various background participated in the workshop, facilitated by Mr. Narayan Awasthi.
The main objective of the workshop was to sensitize the youth of Dhangadhi about their roles, responsibilities towards the government.
He discussed the Fundamental Rights of the citizens. Also, the citizens of the nation need to cope with the government in order to make the government accountable. We cannot complain that the government is not accountable if we do not work in accordance with the law of the country.
Youth can play a coordinative role to ensure people’s participation and transparency in democratic society. Youth can play a leading role in the assurance of human right of all citizen and progress of an individual, society and whole nation. Since youth can easily adhere to different knowledge, skills, and concept, the government shall intake youth in the mainstream as a supporting element. Everyone’s voice and will is addressed dignifiedly only in a democratic environment. To strength democracy into a more strong, beautiful and people-centric governance system, the youth shall be provided with inclusive opportunities and those opportunities shall be invested in democratization. If and only youth get the opportunity to lead and contribute on transparency, accountability and good governance of society, democracy in the real sense can be achieved.

Association of Youth Organizations Nepal (AYON) supported Youth Connection Center – YCC to lead a campaign – “Let Me Breathe” to mark the World Environment Day 2018.
Considering the increasing air pollution in Kathmandu valley and other parts of Nepal, youths have taken up an initiative #Let_Me_Breathe to ask the government and other concerned stakeholders to take up strong immediate action regarding this.
More than 100 youths from various institutions participated in the cleaning campaign of Tinkune area today and a discussion was conducted among the youths regarding this year’s theme – ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.
Youths were sensitized about their role in promoting the key issues of the society.

A Panel Discussion on “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” | ||

Today, we brought up various personalities from the private and the governmental sector in a panel discussion to discuss the 3R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Around 30 participants were involved in the discussion held at Martin Chautari to learn the benefits of Reusing, Reducing and Recycling process and how youths can play an important role to be the change makers of the society.
They were highly motivated by the works done by the private sectors of Nepal in the recycling and reusing process.
The main objective of the program was to identify humans influence on the environment, as individuals and in the community and also to find different ways to minimize it.

Inclusion doesn’t mean the creation of new policies or rights for anyone, it seeks equal participation and changing the perspective on making those policies.
Association of Youth Organizations Nepal (AYON) in collaboration with ENGAGE organized a dialogue series on ” Youth & Disability ” on 14th May 2018, where around 30 participants were involved in an interaction session regarding the opportunities and challenges of a person with disability in Inclusion.
The dialogue made the participants aware of the new ‘Disability Act’ formed by the Nepal Government for the person with disability.
The main aim of the dialogue was to promote social inclusion and create equal opportunities for a person with disability. Also, to focus on raising national awareness on the disability rights/acts with the dissemination and internalization of the new Act.

Association of Youth Organizations Nepal (AYON) has organized a panel discussion today with Nepal Reconstruction Authority (NRA) and Humanitarian Accountability Monitoring Initiative (HAMI) to mark the “3rd Anniversary of 2015 Earthquake” as a part of its dialogue series.
The dialogue series disseminated the information to the youth participants regarding the current scenario of earthquake affected areas in terms of reconstruction and rehabilitation.
Mr. Netra Prasad Subedi, Joint – Secretary, NRA said, “We are trying our best to leave no one behind in terms of reconstruction and rehabilitation.”
Mr. Tilottam Paudel, President, Jcyc Nepal and Core Team Member of HAMI, praised the initiatives taken by the youths of the nation during and post-disaster.

AYON hosted a youth discussion on ‘The Role of Youths in Disaster Risk Reduction’ as a part of its dialogue series. Youths from diverse background are attending the discussion.
The program was held at AYON hall, Kathmandu on 11th April 2018. Around 16 youths participants from different disaster-affected communities were involved in the dialogue. The main aim of the program was to discuss on the youths’ role in order to respond to disasters and also create a Youth Led Disaster Response Team.
There was a fruitful discussion on the topic and all the participants came to a conclusion that it’s a great idea to form a youth-led disaster response team. They also agreed that they will be proactive to mobilize the team in order to distribute relief during the disaster. There are 13 members who agreed to become a member of the Youth Led Disaster Response Team.
The dialogue aimed at creating a Youth-led Disaster Response team who would come together and take immediate actions during and post disasters.

– Involvement of Women in Economic Activities
On the 3rd day of Social Forum 2018, AYON performed a puppet show in Balmiki Campus involving 30 participants from the diverse background.
The theme of the show mainly focused on women employment and empowerment and their contribution to the economic status of Nepal. The drama targeted a typical rural community where the misconception of women doing only household chores existed. The drama showed the image of a conservative society.
A quality interaction session was held with the participants where we received their opinion and feedback in the context of their societies.
The drama conveyed a message to the society that women can also contribute to the economic betterment of the nation and they should not be bounded by any norms of the society that discourage women to be independent.

AYON has organized a workshop on Social Media, Youth & Political Participation.
30+ youths from different colleges and CSOs participated in the program, facilitated by Mr. Saugat Gautam.
Youth today frequently get their political information from social media rather than traditional media.Social media outlets provide vast amounts of political information, from news on politics to political campaigns, and young people.
Social media can encourage youth for political engagement.
The main objective of the workshop was to provide detailed information to the participants on how social media influences political issues, how youth can be part of political discourses and share their opinion on it.

Today, we brought together 4 different political alliances and parties together in common forum to build accountability before and after the elections.
It was an exciting debate among the parties/political alliances to be accountable on youth issues in their manifesto as well as adhering to the Election Code of Conduct.
Thank you to all the speakers and representatives from 4 political parties & alliances, and especially our moderator Sarita Lamichhane for asking the tough questions so effectively.
The program convened the representatives of major political parties/alliances to discuss issues of national priority.
“Nepal Watch” is an initiative, jointly launched by AYON, Nepal Policy Center, and Samyak Abhiyaan.
“Nepal Watch” is a non-partisan citizens’ initiative that aims to support voters in the informed decision-making process and also develop vigilance mechanism of the elected representatives for a more accountable democratic system.
